Franklin Street Gallery and Gift Shop in Watkins Glen held an open reception for photographer and Artist in Focus, Steve Knapp on Friday. The event which happened in congruence with Fridays on Franklin, was a success, with many people coming in to view Knapp's work as well as the many pieces on display in the gallery.
The new Artist in Focus exhibit was created by Franklin Street Gallery’s arts coordinator, Maria McMahon. The gallery will feature a different exhibiting artist each month with a reception held in conjunction with Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce’s Friday on Franklin events on the first Friday of each month.
“It’s difficult to see an artist’s full range of talent from just one piece,” McMahon said. “The Artist in Focus exhibit is an opportunity display multiple works by the artist together, so patrons get a better sense of the artist’s style and motivation. Our Friday reception is the perfect time for gallery visitors to meet the artist.”
Knapp graduated from Dundee Central School. After completing college and grad school outside the area, he lived in Philadelphia for thirty years managing a graphic design business. Knapp decided to move back to the Finger Lakes area in 2002 with his friend, Nancy. He found his true inspiration in his home's view of Keuka Lake.
Knapp’s photos include those of the Finger Lakes region as well as pets, farms, barns, animals and several area villages. His photographs have appeared several times in Life in the Finger Lakes magazine and Finger Lakes regional travel guides. Knapp has exhibited with Franklin Street Gallery since its opening in 2009.
